The Cathedral of San Lorenzo
Going on holiday as an architect is usually just an excuse to look at more buildings.
Especially with our love for building conservation, it’s inspiring to see fantastic examples of historic buildings still in use. The Cattedrale di San Lorenzo in Genoa is one such example, despite being well over 900 years old.
Construction began around 1098 and lasted until the 17th century. Surviving a fire in 1296 and an accidental bombing in 1941, the cathedral has seen a number of significant additions, alterations and renovations over its lifetime – and is still in use today.
